General service description
IP-Plus ISDN Back-up allows to get redundant access using Swisscom's ISDN network. This
solution can be used for access bandwidth of up to 512 kBit/s. Cisco 2620 routers will be
used as access equipment on the customer side. In case of a failure (leased line, PoP Router
or part of the IP Backbone) the customer's router is automatically setting up an ISDN connection
to special access equipment in either Zürich or Geneva.

This solution has several advantages:
- there is no necessity for dynamic routing in the customer network
- easy to implement and to manage (for customers with unmanaged router service)
- modest investments in new/additional hardware
The disadvantages are:
- total outage of the customer router is not covered by this solution
- customers with implemented IP-Plus® Internet Services will have to change to other access
equipment
Customers may use their own routers (unmanaged router service). In such cases, IP-Plus Internet
will deliver the necessary script file, but will not be able to assist in the router set-up in
detail.
Important points
At the moment this service option is available for IP-Plus Direct Access customers.
The customers are themselves responsable for the installation of the ISDN network access
as well as for all charges in relation with the ISDN network.
The ISDN connection is established when needed and a time-out limit of 5 minutes is
preconfigured in the router. Important notice: No Dial-out will be made. This means,
that customer servers (e.g. WEB-server) cannot be reached. A back-up solution using
redundant leased line access is available.
The service should switch back to normal as soon as the access has normalised and the
ISDN link should be closed.
Under certain circumstances, it might be possible that the ISDN link remains active,
which then results in higher ISDN charges.
