Description
This service option allows the redundant access for IP-Plus Direct Access customers by
connecting customer site through two access lines to one of the IP-Plus Main-PoP's.
Traffic is automatically load-shared over the two links. In case of any link or router
failure, the traffic is sent across the remaining link.
Customer traffic is automatically load-shared on a per-flow (source-destination pair)
basis. Load-sharing is achieved using Cisco's CEF technology.
The customer can decide whether he wants to receive a default route via a dynamic
routing protocol such as RIP or OSPF or if he wants to statically route towards a default
gateway. If Hot Standby Routing Protocol (HSRP) is used, the customer needs indeed only
to configure a default route towards the HSRP 'virtual router' address.
Restrictions
For this service options, the following restrictions apply:
- for unmanaged routers, IP-Plus cannot guarantee the load-sharing of the outbound
traffic (namely from the customer site towards IP-Plus).
- redundant connections are only available to the IP-Plus Main-PoP's namely:
Zürich/Herdern, Zürich/Füssli, Geneva, Lausanne, Berne/Ey, Basel, Luzern,
Lugano, St. Gallen and Winterthur.
- The service is not offered over Frame Relay connections.
- The access line speeds must be symmetric (e.g. 2 x 512 kBit/s).
- Both CPE routers must be interconnected back to back.
